Excerpts from the speech of H.E. Mr. Nursultan Nazarbayev, President of the Republic of Kazakhstan at the VI Eurasian Media Forum Almaty, 19 April, 2007
Along with other states we are ready to support in every manner the endeavours aimed at bringing together the West and East in comprehending the key issues of modern world order.
The neighbouring countries can not cooperate in a normal way, build plans for future without trusting, at the same time, each other. Mistrust sometimes may be good as a method, but it always loses as a principle.
Therefore Kazakhstan for the first time in the history of the continent initiated the idea of convening the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA), while considering it as a tool in ensuring stability in the region. I can recall that in 2002 the first achievement of this forum was restoration of the dialogue between India and Pakistan at the time of worsening relations between these nuclear powers.
We are confident that onwards the CICA will be efficiently playing the role of collective mechanism of ensuring security on the Asian continent. |
