CICA commended for contribution to the creation of a safer world
On 23 May 2012 the Executive Director of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA), Ambassador Cinar Aldemir, accompanied by CICA Deputy Executive Director Kanat Tumysh, visited the Interpol Headquarters in Lyon, France on invitation by the Interpol General Secretariat. Ambassador Aldemir met with the H.E. Ronald K.Noble and other senior officials of the Interpol to discuss issues of particular importance to countries in the Asian region, including terrorism and the increased use of the Interpol’s global tools and services. Visit included 4 presentations by Interpol: • on the Interpol's Operational Tools and and Services (OTS). • on the Interpol's Command and Coordination Centre (CCC) operated in Lyon, France. • on the Interpol's Global Complex for Innovation (GCI) to be inaugurated in August, 2014 in Singapore. • on the efforts of the Interpol's Project Kalkan within the context of the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy in the Central Asian Region and broader in the Asian continent. Presentations was followed by the official meeting of the Ambassador Aldemir with the Interpol Secretary General H.E. Ronald K.Noble and the official ceremony of presenting commemorative medals "Twenty years to the initiative of convening the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia" to the Interpol's high-ranked officials. During bilateral meeting Ambassador Aldemir familiarized his counterpart with the CICA and its activities. He informed Mr. Noble that founded in 1992, CICA is a multinational forum for enhancing cooperation towards promoting peace, security and stability in Asia, with 24 member countries and 12 observer countries and organizations. He also applauded the Interpol for its efforts to improve global security. “After becoming acquainted with the Interpol’s state-of-the-art databases and its outstanding results through Project Kalkan, I am convinced that INTERPOL, under the wise leadership of Mr. Noble, is well-equipped to meet the challenges posed by today’s international criminals,” said Ambassador Aldemir. CICA's Executive Director informed counterpart that the CICA applauds the Interpol for its modern and innovative approach to combating terrorism and other emerging crime threats, and its continued efforts to ensure peace and security in the Asian continent and all around the world. He made a hope that there is a great deal of future collaboration between the CICA and the Interpol in retaining peace and security in the region, at both the operational and strategic levels. He also added that the specific CICA’s documents encourages its members to use the Interpol’s tools and services, in particular its Stolen and Lost Travel Documents (SLTD) database, to more effectively promote security in the region. The SLTD currently contains 36 million records from 166 countries.
Afterwards the CICA Executive Director presented CICA's commemorative medals to the Interpol Secretary General H.E. Mr. Ronald K. Noble and Mr. Okan Aysu, Fusion Task Force Coordinator in charge of Project Kalkan, in recognition of INTERPOL’s role in supporting security in the Asian continent and all around the world. On its part, Secretary General Ronald K. Noble added that reducing crime and enhancing security in the Asian region is crucial to creating a safer world for citizens on a global level. The Interpol therefore commends CICA for its ongoing commitment to promoting peace and security throughout Asia, and by extension the entire world. The Interpol Secretary General H.E. Ronald K. Noble presented silver medals “For contribution to the creation of a safer world”, the Interpol founded in 2011 year, to H.E. Ambassador Cinar Aldemir, CICA Executive Director and Mr. Kanat Tumysh, CICA Deputy Executive Director. The first recipient of this medal in the world was H.E. Mrs. Mehriban Aliyeva, the First Lady of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, as well as an internationally respected humanitarian.
