CICA Secretariat signed a Memorandum of Understanding

                                                                       Assembly of People of Kazakhstan
                                                                                  (Astana, 5 May 2014)

Secretariat of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) concluded a Memorandum of Understanding with the Assembly of People of Kazakhstan (APK). The official ceremony took place at the Palace of Peace and Accord in Astana on 5 May 2014. The Memorandum was signed by the CICA Executive Director Ambassador Çinar Aldemir and APK Deputy Chairman Mr. Yeraly Tugzhanov.

The Memorandum was signed in pursuance of a suggestion of His Excellency Nursultan Nazarbayev, the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, at the twentieth anniversary session of the APK.

Ambassador Çinar Aldemir mentioned that it was for the first time that CICA Secretariat signed MOU not with an international organization but with a national constitutional body like the APK. Both structures were established at the initiative of President Nursultan Nazarbayev which provided additional impetus to the establishment of cooperation between the two organizations.

APK Deputy Chairman Mr. Yeraly Tugzhanov emphasized, that CICA was an organization with 24 Asian states as members and has huge influence in the world. He also noted that signing of the Memorandum will certainly make a huge contribution to the development of relations between the two structures.

Memorandum of Understanding covers cooperation and consultation, exchange of information and documentation, participation in meetings and conferences on issues of mutual interest between CICA and the Assembly of People of Kazakhstan.
